Sierra Leone – The Ballanta Academy of Music and Performing Arts is set to enchant audiences with its upcoming Brass Wind Evening, a musical spectacle celebrating the power of brass band music. Scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at 6 PM, the event will take place at the Academy’s headquarters at 27 Liverpool Street, Freetown.

The highlight of the evening will be the performances by two distinguished brass ensembles—the renowned Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Band and Ballanta’s Female Brass Ensemble. The RSLAF Band, celebrated for its precise and harmonious sound, will bring its ceremonial expertise to the stage. Meanwhile, Ballanta’s Female Brass Ensemble, a groundbreaking initiative led by Musa Sam Ganda, will showcase the talents of women excelling in brass music—a field often dominated by men.

Adding an international flair to the concert is German conductor Stephan Flore, whose vast expertise promises to elevate the musical experience. His collaboration with Ballanta Academy is part of the institution’s broader commitment to fostering global artistic partnerships and excellence in music training.

In keeping with Ballanta Academy’s mission to make music accessible, entry to the event will be based on donations, allowing a wide spectrum of the community to enjoy high-quality performances. The hour-long concert is expected to ease the stresses of daily life, offering audiences an immersive journey through classical and contemporary brass compositions.

The Academy, known for its role in nurturing musical talent and preserving Sierra Leone’s rich artistic heritage, continues to strengthen its impact through events like this. The Brass Wind Evening is anticipated to be a testament to the unifying and healing power of music, drawing music lovers, students, and the public together for a remarkable experience.

As excitement builds, the Academy encourages all lovers of brass and wind music to attend and celebrate the artistry and resilience of Sierra Leonean musicians. Whether seasoned musicians or casual listeners, attendees can expect a night of soul-stirring melodies and inspiring performances.
