On Sunday, May 25, the Foulah Town Mosque in Freetown became a place of reflection and unity as family, friends, and community members gathered to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing of Alhaji Dr. A. T. Fadlu-Deen, a revered figure in faith, sports, and public service.
The solemn event featured a Quranic recital at 2 p.m., honoring the late Dr. Fadlu-Deen, whose legacy of humility, leadership, and dedication continues to inspire.
Dr. Fadlu-Deen served as the Alkadi of Foulah Town and was a lifelong sportsman. His leadership extended to key sporting bodies, including his tenure as Treasurer of the National Olympic Committee and President of the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving, and Water Polo Association. His vision and commitment to sports development left an indelible mark on Sierra Leone’s athletic landscape.
Chief Imam Alhaji Tejan led the tributes, describing Dr. Fadlu-Deen as “a pillar within his family and a pillar of the nation—a man who served Sierra Leone with dignity, humility, and selflessness.”
The commemoration also honored his widow, Dr. Kitty Fadlu-Deen, a distinguished music educator and cultural historian, whose contributions to Sierra Leone’s cultural and educational development remain invaluable. Imam Tejan extended prayers for her continued strength and blessings.
The ceremony was a heartfelt reminder that true legacies are built on character, service, and devotion. Though a decade has passed since his passing, those who knew Dr. Fadlu-Deen continue to cherish his impact, pledging to uphold the values he lived by.
