Freetown, July 1, 2025 — The Ministry of Energy, through the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has announced a one-year extension of its power supply contract with Turkish energy provider, Karpowership.
In a joint press release issued on Tuesday, both parties confirmed that the agreement will see Karpowership continue to supply 25 megawatts of electricity during the rainy season and 45 megawatts in the dry season. The move is expected to bolster Sierra Leone’s energy stability and address growing demand for electricity across the country.
As part of the deal, the Government of Sierra Leone and Karpowership have also reached a negotiated settlement on outstanding debt, resulting in a restructured payment arrangement.
The Ministry of Energy expressed its gratitude to Karpowership for what it described as “mutual understanding and shared commitment to providing accessible and reliable electricity.”
“The Ministry and Karpowership remain deeply committed to the socio-economic development of the country and to helping the government realize its overall policy objectives in the energy sector,” the statement concluded.
