NPAA Staff Remanded for Alleged Assault and Grievous Bodily Harm

 Freetown, Sierra Leone – 2 July 2025: Magistrate Mary Julian Gbloh of Pademba Road Court No. 5 on Wednesday ordered the remand of Amara Salia, a staff member of the National Protected Area Authority (NPAA), over allegations of wounding and assaulting Abubakarr Turay.

According to the charge sheet, the accused faces four counts:

– Conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm

– Causing grievous bodily harm with intent

– Wounding

– Assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 47 of the Offences Against the Person Act of 1861.

The alleged incident occurred on Friday, 28 March 2025, in the Lumley area of Freetown. Police reports state that Salia, along with other unknown individuals, inflicted serious injuries on the victim.

At his first court appearance, no plea was taken. Prosecutor Sergeant 5598 Santigie Koroma requested an adjournment due to the absence of the prosecution’s key witness.

Magistrate Gbloh denied bail, citing the gravity of the offenses, and remanded the accused to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter was adjourned to July 8, 2025, for further proceedings.
