Sierra Leone Correctional Service

CLARIFICATION REGARDING MISREPRESENTATION OF A PHOTO CIRCULATING ON SOCIAL MEDIA

 To the General Public.

It has come to the attention of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) that a photograph taken following a recent public event in which one of our Directors appear along with Mr. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has been circulated on social media in a manner that grossly misrepresents the purpose of our participation.

On Sunday, June 22, 2025, a representative from the person of  Director Ashratu Veronica Turay, attended a program organized by Women’s Empowerment Foundation to deliver a short talk on ‘rehabilitation and social reintegration of Female inmates’, on behalf of the Director General of the SLCS.  The participation was strictly in a professional and institutional capacity, focused on Justice Sector Collaboration and National Development.

The circulating photo was a group photo taken on the request of the organizers of the event which included all attendees, including Mr. Kamara. This image is now being circulated and misrepresented as an endorsement campaign for social politician.

In view of the above, the SLCS wishes to make it absolutely clear that:

  •  Our presence at the event was non-Political and strictly aligned with our institutional mandates.
  •  The SLCS is a public institution and does not align itself or endorse any political party, candidate or campaign group.
  • The framing of this image to imply political alignment is false, misleading deeply inappropriate and regrettable.

We there urge the public to disregard this misinformation and strongly advise those responsible for the misuse of this image to desist and to respect the integrity and neutrality of public institutions.

Thank you for your attention and understanding.
