Sierra Leone’s film industry made a triumphant leap onto the international stage over the weekend, as Honey Vision Entertainment, in collaboration with Team Made, dominated the 5th edition of the Special Movie Awards (SMA 5.0) held in The Gambia.

The Sierra Leonean delegation captured six major awards, including:

– Best Feature Film

– Best Director

– Best Editor

– Best Lead Actor

– Best Lead Actress

– Best Supporting Actress

This resounding success has ignited pride across the nation and stirred excitement within the entertainment community. Social media platforms erupted in celebration, with creatives and fans hailing the achievement as a defining moment for Salone cinema.

“This is more than a win — it’s a loud message to the world: Watch out! The Sierra Leone film industry is rising, stronger than ever,” declared Amadu Wurie Bah, a key member of the winning team, in a jubilant post shared alongside co-creative Sesay Babah and others.

The Special Movie Awards are among West Africa’s most prestigious film honors, attracting entries from across the continent. Winning at this level signals not only Sierra Leone’s growing presence in African cinema but also the potential for global collaborations.

Honey Vision Entertainment’s award-winning feature film has been praised for combining rich local storytelling with professional cinematic quality, demonstrating that Sierra Leonean filmmakers are capable of producing content that resonates beyond national borders.

Industry experts believe this milestone could unlock fresh investment opportunities, wider distribution, and increased visibility for filmmakers across the country. A representative from the team noted: “This is not just for Honey Vision or Team Made — it’s for every creative in Sierra Leone pushing boundaries.”

As the cameras dim on SMA 5.0, the spotlight now turns to Freetown’s creative hotspots, where a new generation of actors, producers, and storytellers is ready to build on this moment and push Sierra Leonean cinema to even greater heights.
