Freetown, July 22, 2025 — In a bid to clamp down on rising urban indiscipline, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has formed a multi-agency task force to enforce law and order across Freetown. The initiative follows a directive issued by President Julius Maada Bio to bring orderliness to the capital city.
Speaking at a press briefing, Retired AIG Morie Lengor unveiled the Task Force on Indiscipline and Lawlessness, comprising representatives from: Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Freetown City Council (FCC), Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), and Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA)
The task force has taken swift action, including banning commercial motorbikes from operating within the Central Business District (CBD) due to persistent public safety concerns, and clearing 23 major streets of illegal street trading in coordination with the FCC, aiming to ease congestion and reclaim public walkways, and tackling noise pollution in residential zones to improve living conditions and restore community peace.
To bolster citizen involvement, the task force has launched a 900 toll-free hotline, accessible on all mobile networks, enabling residents to report violations and disturbances anonymously.
Minister Lengor emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a clean, safe, and orderly urban environment. He urged citizens to support the task force’s efforts and uphold civic responsibility.
This move is seen as a major step in strengthening public safety and reinforcing government authority in managing urban spaces.
