Freetown, July 22, 2025 — A Chinese national, Liv Jin Jie, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 to answer charges of fraudulent conversion involving a six-figure transaction gone wrong.

The accused is alleged to have fraudulently converted USD 136,600—approximately Le3,141,800—entrusted to him by Mohamed Chernor Koroma. The money was reportedly meant for the purchase of one rig drilling machine and one stone crusher machine, but the transaction never materialized.

The accused was charged with fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 20 (1)(4)(b) of the Larceny Act of 1916. It is alleged that the offense was committed between the 1st–31st October 2024, in Freetown.

During the hearing, the charge was explained through an interpreter, but no plea was entered. Prosecutor Inspector Kadie Taylor requested an adjournment, citing the absence of witnesses.

Magistrate Jah ordered that Liv Jin Jie be remanded in custody, and adjourned the matter to July 26, 2025, for further proceedings.
