Director Aiah Momoh Emerges as Front-Runner in Film Council ElectionsBy Ibrahim S. Bangura

Freetown, Sierra Leone — As the Sierra Leone Film Council gears up for its highly anticipated presidential elections, one name continues to dominate conversations in creative circles: Director Aiah Momoh. With a message centered on transformation, professionalism, and unity, his campaign slogan — “A monetized and harmonized film industry” — has struck a chord across the country’s artistic community.

Known for his disciplined leadership style, innovative approach, and unwavering ethics, Momoh has pledged to overhaul Sierra Leone’s fragmented film sector and reposition it as a profitable and inclusive creative economy.

“This is not just about becoming president,” Momoh stated in an exclusive interview. “It’s about building structures, ensuring filmmakers are rewarded for their hard work, and bringing peace and unity to an industry that has seen too many divisions.”

With decades of experience in directing and mentorship, Momoh has voiced concern over the lack of cohesion in the industry. He advocates for systems that serve creators in every corner of the country — from Bo and Kenema to Freetown — insisting that discipline, collaboration, and investment are key to growth.

His message has resonated widely, earning endorsements from actors, editors, screenwriters, and members of the diaspora.

Filmmaker Mariama Conteh from Makeni remarked, “He understands our struggles. He pushes us to refine our craft and market our stories.”

Sound engineer Mohamed Jalloh added, “He pays fairly, promotes excellence, and truly lives his commitment to change.”

The phrase “monetized and harmonized film industry” has become a rallying cry among young creatives frustrated by piracy, low returns, and lack of digital platforms. For Momoh, monetization is more than a concept — it’s a call to invest in copyright protections, mobile content distribution, and international partnerships.

A Vision of Inclusivity and Progress

His campaign manifesto lays out plans to:

Establish a filmmakers’ cooperative fund

Partner with telecom companies for content distribution

Launch annual film markets and pitch forums

Build a national filmmaker registry

Promote inclusive programs for women and people with disabilities

 Faith, Responsibility, and Leadership

As the election draws closer, Momoh’s calm demeanor and mission-driven approach have made him a standout candidate. “This is the moment for Sierra Leone’s film industry to rise — not just in name but in value,” he said, pointing to his campaign poster. “Together, we can build a future where stories are not only told, but sold, protected, and celebrated.”

With excitement building across districts and online platforms, many believe a vote for Director Aiah Momoh could mark the beginning of a new era for Sierra Leonean cinema.
