Freetown, July 27, 2025 — The atmosphere was filled with reverence and joy as God Is Our Light Mission Sierra Leone celebrated its 80th anniversary with a grand thanksgiving service at the Church Headquarters, No. 9 Cannon Lane, off Jomo Kenyatta Road, Freetown.
Theme: “Building on the Rock: Forging Ahead” Inspired by Matthew 7:24–25, the anniversary theme paid tribute to the enduring foundation of faith laid since the mission’s inception in 1945 by Bishop James N. Kajue, following his missionary journey in Ghana.
Delivering the sermon, Rev. Moses Aiah Komba, Head of Mission, reflected on the founding principles that continue to shape the church’s legacy. “Prayer, fasting, and praise are the bedrock of our mission,” he emphasized. “God himself inhabits the praises of his people.”
Faith Through Trials
Rev. Komba recounted the dedication of early church leaders who advanced Christianity in Kono and other provincial areas despite persecution. “We are here today celebrating 80 years only by the grace of God,” he said, reminding the congregation of the sacrifices made by their predecessors.
He urged current members to uphold the mission’s values and actively support the ministry’s growth through contributions and participation. “Let us fight for the future of the church and preserve its legacy,” he admonished.
The clergyman concluded with a passionate appeal for unity and harmony within the church, calling on members to reject division and rededicate themselves to collective purpose.
The event was punctuated with joyful presentations, including: cutting of the 80th Anniversary cake and Thanksgiving offerings from various church branches and organizations.
With strong attendance and heartfelt reflections, the celebration stood as a powerful reminder of the mission’s enduring journey and its continued role in shaping faith in Sierra Leone.
