Former SLFA President Congratulates Babadi on Election Victory

By Sallieu S. Kanu

Sierra Leone, August 4, 2025: In a gesture of unity and sportsmanship, former Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Thomas Daddy Brima has extended his congratulations to newly elected SLFA President Babadi Kamara. The message was conveyed during a cordial phone call on Monday, August 4, 2025, in which Brima extended his best wishes to Kamara in his new role and pledged his support for the continued development of football in Sierra Leone.

The SLFA issued a public notice acknowledging Brima’s outreach, describing it as a “mark of unity and mutual respect” within the football fraternity. The association emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration in advancing the sport nationwide.

Babadi Kamara, Executive Chairman of Bo Rangers Football Club, was elected SLFA President on August 2, 2025, during the highly anticipated Elective Congress held at the Gateway Hotel in Lungi. Kamara secured a commanding victory with 43 out of 55 valid votes, defeating his sole challenger, Aminata Bangura.

Kamara’s election marks a significant shift in leadership following the disqualification and subsequent 12-month ban of outgoing President Thomas Daddy Brima by the SLFA Ethics Committee. Brima, who had served since 2021, was recognized for his efforts to revitalize Sierra Leonean football, including the launch of the Female National Premier League and infrastructure improvements. However, his tenure ended amid controversy and allegations of financial misconduct.

Kamara now assumes leadership with a four-year mandate, facing high expectations to restore public trust, strengthen national teams, and attract investment into grassroots football.

Brima’s congratulatory message is seen as a positive step toward reconciliation and continuity in Sierra Leone’s football governance. His assurance of support signals a willingness to put past divisions aside and focus on the shared goal of elevating the sport.

The SLFA reiterated its commitment to fostering unity among stakeholders and building on the momentum of the recent elections to usher in a new chapter for football in the country.
