Freetown, Sierra Leone — August 1, 2025: The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the Reggae Union of Sierra Leone and Olive Garden, hosted the inaugural One Nation Reggae Festival at Family Kingdom, Aberdeen Beach Road — a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and unity.
The festival, held under the banner of the Ministry’s Year of Ecotourism campaign, embraced the theme of “Connecting Culture, Community, and Conservation.” It brought together hundreds of attendees for a night filled with electrifying live bands, dynamic DJs, and spirited performances that showcased the enduring power of reggae in Sierra Leonean society.
The event highlighted reggae’s role as a unifying force, promoting peace and solidarity among Sierra Leoneans. The symbolic climax of the evening was the lighting of a flame of unity, representing the collective journey toward liberation, emancipation, and national cohesion.
In addition to the musical festivities, the festival featured an educational session for students, aimed at passing down knowledge of Sierra Leone’s rich history, values, and cultural ideals to the next generation. This initiative reinforced the festival’s broader mission of cultural preservation and youth engagement.
The festival was attended by dignitaries, cultural ambassadors, and guests from across the country and the Caribbean. Speakers emphasized the importance of reggae as a cultural bridge, reconnecting audiences with the timeless music of legends like Amara Kabba, while celebrating shared heritage and historical bonds.
The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, along with representatives from partner organizations, hailed the event as a milestone in Sierra Leone’s cultural calendar — one that not only entertains but educates and inspires.
The One Nation Reggae Festival is expected to become an annual fixture, further cementing Sierra Leone’s place on the global cultural map.
