Sierra Leone — August 12, 2025: In a major step toward national reconciliation, the Government of Sierra Leone has formally cleared 37 individuals affiliated with the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) Party of any criminal investigations, affirming their freedom to resume normal activities without interference. The announcement, issued by the Office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, follows recommendations from the Resolution 4 Oversight Committee under the Agreement for National Unity (ANU), signed on October 18, 2023.
The decision is part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to fully implement the ANU, which aims to foster political harmony and rebuild trust between the ruling administration and the opposition.
Among those cleared are prominent APC members, law enforcement personnel, and community figures. The list includes: Idrissa Hamid Kamara, Insp Sullay Deen Sesay, Victor Vandy Kamara, Sgt Kanneh Thoronka, Sgt Hassan Bruz Kamara, Sgt Abubakarr Conteh, Sheik Ibrahim Koroma (SIK), Rtd Captain Desmond Gebara, Abdulai Mansaray (Rambo), Hassan N’Bompa Turay and 27 others.
The full list was signed by Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, Esq.
In a related development, two high-profile APC figures—Alpha Sheriff, popularly known as “APC Sheriff,” and Alhaji S. Fofanah—were among those released from detention at the Pa Demba Road Correctional Centre. Their release sparked jubilant celebrations among supporters, who hailed the moment as a triumph for justice and political fairness.
The atmosphere outside the prison was electric, with chants, songs, and emotional embraces marking the return of the two men to their families and communities.
The Government’s decision to clear these individuals and release detained party figures is seen as a meaningful gesture toward political unity and national healing. As Sierra Leone continues to implement the ANU, observers hope this momentum will lead to deeper collaboration and lasting peace across the political spectrum.
