Makeni, Bombali District – August 28, 2025: In a continued effort to reform and strengthen Sierra Leone’s internal security framework, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, under the leadership of Rtd. AIG. Morie Lengor Esq, has embarked on the development of its Strategic Development Plan (SDP) for 2026–2030. Supported by the Government of Sierra Leone and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the initiative marks a pivotal step toward establishing a unified vision and actionable priorities for national security.
Following the initial drafting of the SDP, the Ministry launched a series of Regional Stakeholder Consultations to gather inclusive and participatory input from across the country. After a successful engagement in Bo, the consultation team arrived in Makeni City, Bombali District, where they met with representatives from key security institutions and civil society stakeholders.
Delivering the opening remarks, Mr. Mohamed G. Yoki Esq, Director of Policy and Coordination at the Ministry, emphasized the Minister’s commitment to transformation through collaboration. “This Strategic Development Plan is not just a document—it’s a roadmap,” he stated. “It reflects our mission, vision, and values, and ensures that every stakeholder is aligned in making Sierra Leone the safest place in the world.”
The consultation featured statements from various stakeholders, including Mr. Mahmoud A. Comteh, Programme Associate for Inclusive Governance, Peace and Prosperity at UNDP. He reaffirmed UNDP’s support for the Government’s development agenda and encouraged participants to contribute meaningfully to the SDP. “Your insights are vital,” he said. “Let’s ensure this plan is not only strategic but smart and impactful.”
The session concluded with breakout discussions on key thematic areas, where participants presented their views and recommendations. These contributions will be instrumental in shaping the final version of the Strategic Development Plan.
The Ministry’s inclusive approach signals a new era of transparency and collaboration in national security planning, with regional voices playing a central role in shaping the future.
