Bo, Sierra Leone — In a bold stride toward addressing Sierra Leone’s housing deficit, the Sierra Leone Housing Corporation (SALHOC) and Banga Group have launched a nationwide site tour to assess key lands earmarked for the construction of 5,000 affordable homes. The initiative marks a major milestone in the country’s housing development agenda.

The high-level delegation, led by Banga Group Vice President Mr. Sow Taguiyoulaye dit Yero and joined by Chinese partners, SALHOC General Manager Mr. Joseph Munda Sandi, Deputy General Manager Mr. Emmanuel Tommy, and Banga Group’s Local Representative Alhaji Ibrahim Conteh, inspected three strategic sites: 206 acres in Mile 6, 150 acres in Mapara, and 25 acres in Macdonald.

This tour follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2025 between SALHOC and Banga Group, aimed at delivering 5,000 modern, affordable homes across Sierra Leone. The formal contract signing is currently underway, paving the way for construction to begin.

Earlier this year, SALHOC officials visited Banga Group’s housing development in Niamey, Niger, to evaluate the company’s capacity for large-scale residential projects. The Niamey model is now being adapted to Sierra Leone’s context, with a focus on sustainability, affordability, and community transformation.

“This project is a direct response to the Government’s Medium Term National Development Plan 2023–2028, which prioritizes housing for all citizens,” said SALHOC General Manager Mr. Joseph Munda Sandi. “It’s a major step toward delivering decent and sustainable homes nationwide.”

Banga Group Vice President Mr. Yero reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transforming communities through modern housing, citing the Niamey success story as a blueprint. SALHOC Deputy General Manager Mr. Emmanuel Tommy emphasized the long-term value the project will bring to communities, while Alhaji Ibrahim Conteh highlighted the lasting legacy it will leave for future generations.

The partnership is expected to significantly reduce Sierra Leone’s housing shortfall and provide thousands of citizens with access to safe, affordable living spaces — a transformative leap toward inclusive national development.
