Chief Justice Attends Commonwealth Judicial Confab

Banjul, The Gambia – September 22, 2025: His Lordship, Honourable Chief Justice Komba Kamanda of Sierra Leone has joined Chief Justices from 54 Commonwealth nations at the 20th Triennial Conference of the Commonwealth Magistrates and Judges’ Association (CMJA), currently underway in The Gambia.

Themed “Combating Corruption and Promoting Accountability in the Judicial Sector,” the conference brings together top judicial officers to exchange ideas, share best practices, and explore reforms aimed at strengthening judicial independence and integrity across member states.

Chief Justice Kamanda emphasized the importance of international collaboration in advancing Sierra Leone’s judicial reforms. “The knowledge and experiences shared at the CMJA Conference will contribute to ongoing reforms and capacity-building under my watch,” he stated. “We will continue to ensure that justice is not only done, but seen to be done.”

The CMJA Conference, which runs from Sunday, September 21 to Friday, September 26, 2025, serves as a vital platform for addressing common challenges such as case backlogs, corruption, and threats to judicial impartiality.

The Judiciary of Sierra Leone reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting good governance through active participation in global judicial forums.
