FREETOWN — Director Aiah Momoh has been elected President of the Sierra Leone Film Council (SLFC), securing a decisive victory in a landmark election that signals a new chapter for the country’s film industry. Momoh, widely respected for his disciplined leadership and visionary approach, won 68 votes to opponent Robinson’s 34, reflecting broad support across Sierra Leone’s creative community.
The election, held across seven regions, showcased Momoh’s dominance in key areas:
- North East (Makeni): Momoh – 15, Robinson – 0
- Southern (Bo): Momoh – 11, Robinson – 4
- Eastern (Kenema): Momoh – 7, Robinson – 8
- Western Urban (East): Momoh – 11, Robinson – 4
- Western Urban (West): Momoh – 13, Robinson – 2
- Western Rural (Waterloo): Momoh – 0, Robinson – 14
- North West (Port Loko): Momoh – 11, Robinson – 2
Despite Robinson’s strong showing in Waterloo, Momoh’s consistent performance elsewhere secured his mandate.
The SLFC officially launched its electoral process on July 15, 2025, with a five-member Election Committee drawn from across the country. The committee facilitated town hall meetings and debates, ensuring transparency and allowing candidates to engage directly with filmmakers and stakeholders.
Speaking to Premier News after his victory, Momoh expressed deep satisfaction. “It has been a very long journey. The industry has felt like stagnant water—trapped in one place. This is not just about becoming president; it’s about building structures, restoring unity, and moving forward. And the movement begins now,” he declared.
Momoh’s campaign, anchored on the slogan “A monetized and harmonized film industry,” promises to transform Sierra Leone’s fragmented film sector into a profitable and inclusive creative economy. His vision includes fostering professionalism, promoting ethical standards, and elevating Sierra Leonean cinema on the global stage.
“This is the moment for Sierra Leone’s film industry to rise—not just in name, but in value,” Momoh affirmed.
His election marks a pivotal moment for the SLFC, which has long sought to unify the country’s filmmakers under a shared vision. With Momoh at the helm, stakeholders are hopeful for a revitalized industry that reflects both artistic excellence and economic opportunity.
