MAFS Hosts Induction Training for Newly Recruited Accountants to Strengthen Feed Salone Implementation

Bo, October 3, 2025 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) has conducted a nationwide induction training for newly recruited accountants and their assistants, aimed at enhancing financial management and accountability within the Feed Salone Initiatives. The training took place at the Wizard Conference Hall in Bo and was facilitated by the Office of the Chief Accountant with oversight from the Accountant General’s Department.

Themed “Onboarding and Skills Development for New Accounting Staff,” the session focused on equipping participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to manage agricultural funds efficiently, promote collaboration with District Agriculture Offices (DAOs) and Local Councils, and ensure transparent service delivery aligned with national food security goals.

Chief Accountant Mathew Sellu Yokie emphasized the importance of the training in building capacity for public financial management, regulatory compliance, and effective coordination. “Accountants must ensure timely disbursement and accurate recording of agricultural funds, support procurement and audit processes, and safeguard resources through internal controls,” Yokie stated.

Delivering the keynote address, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Dr. Henry Musa Kpaka highlighted the strategic role of accountants in actualizing the Feed Salone agenda. He noted that the national recruitment of accounting staff was designed to foster transparency and accountability in fund utilization across agricultural programs.

“My ministry is currently on a nationwide Monitoring and Evaluation tour to harmonize strategies and gather insights from stakeholders,” Dr. Kpaka said. He urged the new recruits to uphold integrity and resist corruption, describing accountants as gatekeepers of national development.

The induction attracted a diverse group of facilitators, including representatives from the Local Government Finance and Decentralization Department, the Accountant General’s Office, the Auditor General’s Department, and the Feed Salone Technical Team. Presentations covered a range of topics designed to support the smooth execution of responsibilities and the realization of expected outcomes.

The training marks a significant step in strengthening Sierra Leone’s agricultural financing systems and ensuring that the Feed Salone Initiatives are implemented with transparency, efficiency, and impact.
