Freetown, October 7, 2025: Sierra Leone’s Chief Justice, Honourable Justice Komba Kamanda, has received a prestigious certificate of merit in recognition of his unwavering dedication to justice and the rule of law. The award was presented during a ceremony held at the Judges’ Room on Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown.
Justice Kamanda, who currently serves as Chairman of the ECOWAS Judicial Council, is the first Sierra Leonean to hold this esteemed regional position. His leadership and advocacy for judicial reform within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) have earned him widespread acclaim both nationally and internationally.
A Citation of Excellence
The citation accompanying the award commended Justice Kamanda for his “unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of justice and promoting the rule of law.” The recognition highlights his role in strengthening judicial institutions and ensuring equitable access to justice across the region.
In his acceptance remarks, Justice Kamanda reaffirmed his commitment to the Constitution and to delivering justice that is fair, efficient, and accessible. “I remain duty-bound to uphold the Constitution and ensure that justice is administered to all who come before the Court,” he stated.
Olabisie Kaiyindae, representing the presenting organization JFJD from Nigeria, expressed gratitude to the Chief Justice for the opportunity to honor his contributions. “We are deeply appreciative of his leadership and the example he sets for the region,” Kaiyindae said.
Justice Kamanda’s recognition marks a significant moment for Sierra Leone’s judiciary, reinforcing the country’s role in promoting legal excellence and regional cooperation.
