Taiama, Moyamba District, October 10, 2025: President Dr Julius Maada Bio has reaffirmed his commitment to agricultural transformation by joining young Sierra Leonean agripreneur Sherilyn Cowan for the symbolic harvest of her 60-hectare maize farm in Taiama. The farm, owned by Sherilyn’s Enterprise for National Change (SENC), is supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (MAFS) and represents a model of youth-led agribusiness under the Feed Salone agenda.

Addressing community members and officials gathered for the event, President Bio emphasized that agriculture is a cornerstone of national development, capable of creating jobs, boosting food security, and driving self-sufficiency.

“Feed Salone is not just a government programme, it is a call to action for every Sierra Leonean,” he said. “If we all grow what we eat and invest in agriculture, we can secure our nation’s future and lift millions out of poverty.”

The President praised Sherilyn Cowan for her leadership and innovation in large-scale maize production, describing her work as a powerful example of how young people are transforming agriculture into a modern, profitable, and sustainable enterprise.

“What Sherilyn is doing is exactly what Feed Salone is about,” he added. “Young people leading the way in building a resilient and inclusive agricultural economy.”

The event drew senior government officials, local leaders, and residents who celebrated the growing momentum of Feed Salone as a national movement toward food sovereignty and shared prosperity.

This symbolic harvest was part of President Bio’s two-day assessment tour, which included visits to the Rokupr Agricultural Research Station, the Mile 91 National Seed Testing Laboratory, his 1,000-acre cashew farm, and the Taiama maize site — all aimed at evaluating progress in the second year of Feed Salone’s implementation.
