October 20, 2025: The Anti-Corruption Commission of Sierra Leone (ACC-SL) has handed over a second cheque of One Million Leone (Le:1,000,000.00), equivalent to  One Billion old Leones (Le:1,000,000,000.00), to the Freetown City Council (FCC) as part of its ongoing restitution efforts.

The presentation took place on Monday, October 20, 2025, at the office of ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala Esq, located at Integrity House, Tower Hill, Freetown. Receiving the cheque on behalf of the FCC was Chief Administrator Mr. Rahman Tom Farmar.

This payment marks the second installment in the ACC’s commitment to return a total of Three Billion old Leones (Le:3,000,000,000.00) that were illicitly siphoned from the FCC. The funds were misappropriated by certain council staff in collusion with employees of a commercial bank where the council’s account was held.

Following a thorough investigation, the ACC successfully recovered the full amount, including accrued interest. Commissioner Kaifala confirmed that administrative sanctions have already been imposed on those involved, and legal proceedings against key offenders are set to follow.

The ACC reiterated its dedication to ensuring public funds are protected and misappropriated resources are returned to their rightful institutions.
