October 23, 2025: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formally indicted three individuals in Kono District for the alleged misappropriation of 15 water tanks intended for public use under a government-funded project. The indictment was filed at the High Court of Sierra Leone in Koidu.
The accused are Allieu James Kanneh, principal and teacher at Yeigbema Secondary School in Ngo Town; Chief Foday Tholley, traditional leader of Walehun village; and Hudy Kondeh, a resident of Ngo Town in Niyimaya Chiefdom.
According to the ACC, each of the three individuals faces one count of Misappropriation of Public Property, contrary to Section 36(1), and one count of Conspiracy to Commit a Corruption Offence, under Section 128(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the 2019 Act.
The charges stem from events that occurred between December 1 and December 31, 2024, during which the accused allegedly conspired to misappropriate fifteen 5,000-liter Milla water tanks. These tanks were supplied by the Government of Sierra Leone through the Kono District Council and the Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) as part of the Rain Water Harvest Project. They were designated for use in schools and a community health centre in Kono District.
In a statement, the ACC reaffirmed its commitment to fighting corruption in all its forms and ensuring accountability in the management of public resources.
