Sierra Leone —October 27, 2025: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has formally indicted Saidu Ibrahim Sahr Kanneh, a teacher at Sierra International Secondary School in Kenema, on eight counts of corruption-related offences, including academic malpractice and accepting bribes.
According to a press release issued by the ACC, Kanneh faces three counts of academic malpractice, three counts of conspiracy to commit a corruption offence, and two counts of accepting an advantage. The charges are in violation of Sections 128(3), 128(1), and 28(2)(A) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act No. 9 of 2019.
The indictment stems from an incident on 22 May 2025, during the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Chemistry Essay Paper 2 at Karlkunle Senior Secondary School in Kenema. ACC monitoring officers apprehended Kanneh while he was allegedly delivering written answers to candidates during the exam.
Investigations revealed that Kanneh had collected examination booklets from certain candidates and completed the answers on their behalf. He was also found in possession of unauthorized examination materials. Further inquiries established that Kanneh received payments from two candidates—Morrison Vandi and Hawa Ngegba of Modern African Progressive Secondary School—to write the Chemistry paper for them.
Kanneh reportedly confessed to the offences and pleaded for forgiveness.
The ACC reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public examinations and combating academic malpractice and corruption within Sierra Leone’s education sector.
