Parliament Passes ‘Appropriation Act of 2026’

Freetown,  December 19, 2025 – The Parliament of Sierra Leone has enacted the Appropriation Act of 2026 following extensive debate and scrutiny, authorizing government expenditure for the financial year 2026.

Themed “Enhancing Domestic Revenue Mobilization to Sustain Economic Development for Service Delivery”, the Act empowers the government to draw from the consolidated fund to finance public services and related matters.

The Bill underwent detailed examination at the committee stage under the Committee of Supplies before being passed into law with amendments. Lawmakers emphasized the importance of strengthening domestic revenue mobilization as a foundation for sustainable economic growth and improved service delivery.

The approved national budget for 2026 is estimated at NLe 27,717,307,300 (Twenty-Seven Billion, Seven Hundred and Seventeen Million, Three Hundred and Seven Thousand, Three Hundred Leones).

The passage of the Appropriation Act marks a significant step in Sierra Leone’s fiscal planning, ensuring that government programs and services are adequately funded while reinforcing accountability in public financial management.
