Moyamba, January 16, 2026: — President Dr Julius Maada Bio has officially commissioned the newly constructed National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) District Office in Moyamba, describing the facility as a milestone in expanding social protection, decentralising public services, and advancing inclusive development across Sierra Leone.
Addressing dignitaries and residents at the ceremony, President Bio said the establishment of the Moyamba office demonstrates his government’s determination to bring essential services closer to the people, particularly workers in provincial and rural communities who form the backbone of the national economy.
“This building is not just about bricks and mortar,” President Bio declared. “It is about dignity, security, and the assurance that the hardworking people of this district and surrounding areas can access their social security benefits with ease and confidence.”
The President underscored that social security remains a cornerstone of human capital development, stressing that a responsive and accessible pension system is vital for safeguarding workers during their productive years and in retirement. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening institutions that protect workers’ rights and welfare.
Commending NASSIT for its reforms and nationwide expansion, President Bio highlighted the institution’s role in supporting national development through prudent investments, job creation, and the protection of contributors’ funds. He further emphasized that decentralisation is a key policy priority, noting that facilities such as the Moyamba office will ease pressure on Freetown while improving efficiency and service delivery.
President Bio urged NASSIT staff to uphold professionalism, transparency, and integrity in their duties, reminding them that public trust is earned through accountability and quality service.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional leaders, NASSIT board members, management and staff, as well as community residents, who welcomed the facility as a timely intervention to enhance access to pension and social security services in Moyamba.
The new district office is expected to serve contributors and beneficiaries across Moyamba and neighbouring areas, reinforcing the government’s broader agenda of inclusive growth, social protection, and people-centred governance.
