High Court Orders Forfeiture of Three Houses in ACC-Led Settlement Against Abu Kamara

By Sallieu S. Kanu

Sierra Leone – January 20, 2026: The High Court of Sierra Leone has endorsed a landmark settlement between the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Abu Kamara, resulting in the forfeiture of three high-value properties to the State.

Presided over by Honourable Justice A.T. Ganda J, the Court on January 12 formally adopted the Minutes of Settlement Agreement in the matter of The State vs. Abu Kamara. The ruling highlights the effectiveness of the ACC’s Non-Conviction Asset Recovery model, which allows for the recovery of illicitly acquired assets without the need for a criminal conviction.

Properties Forfeited

Under the settlement terms, Abu Kamara surrendered the following assets to the State:

  • A fully furnished four-storey building and land at No. 8 Cemetery Road, off Peninsular Road, Ogoo Farm.
  • A two-storey building and land at Black Johnson, off Peninsular Road.
  • An incomplete two-storey building located at Galun Road, Bo City.

The Court further granted the ACC sole authority to sell and dispose of the properties by private treaty, ensuring their conversion into public value in accordance with the law and the public interest.

Significance of the Ruling

The ACC described the outcome as a major victory in its fight against corruption, emphasizing that the Non-Conviction Asset Recovery model is a results-driven and restorative justice approach. By reclaiming assets for the State, the Commission sends a clear message that individuals will not be allowed to benefit from wealth acquired through corrupt practices.

“This ruling demonstrates our unwavering commitment to protect State resources and recover illicitly-acquired wealth,” the ACC stated, assuring the public of its continued vigilance in safeguarding national assets.

The Commission encouraged citizens to remain confident in its efforts and invited further enquiries through its Public Relations Office, headed by Alex A. Bah (Ag. PRO), reachable via +23278004714 or info@anticorruption.gov.sl.
