Freetown— February 11, 2026: The Sierra Leone Police has confirmed that it is investigating a suspected homicide involving Catherine Valentina Kamanda, a respected Matron at Connaught Hospital and Lecturer at the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS). Ms. Kamanda, who resided at No. 5 Kamanda Drive, Peninsula, Goderich, was found dead at her home late on the night of February 8, 2026.
According to preliminary police investigations, the incident occurred between 11:00 p.m. and midnight at the victim’s residence. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has taken into custody Goodluck Nicol, aged 16, who is reported to be the adopted son of the deceased and lived at the same address. Police sources say the suspect has allegedly confessed to striking Ms. Kamanda on the head with a pestle. He is currently assisting investigators.
Authorities have clarified that the incident was not a robbery, countering earlier speculation circulating in some quarters. The Sierra Leone Police has assured the public that the matter is being treated with urgency and that further details will be communicated as investigations progress.
In a statement, the Police extended condolences to the family, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased, pledging its commitment to ensuring justice is served. Members of the public have been urged to remain calm and provide any useful information that may assist the investigation.
Catherine Valentina Kamanda was a well‑known figure in Sierra Leone’s health sector, serving both as a senior Matron at Connaught Hospital and as a lecturer at COMAHS. Her professional contributions to nursing and medical education earned her respect among colleagues and students alike.
