Dakar, Senegal — February 15, 2026: Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Senegal, His Excellency Ibrahim Turay, on Sunday hosted his second meeting with Sierra Leonean expatriate workers in Dakar, continuing efforts to strengthen ties between the embassy and nationals living abroad.
Welcoming participants, Acting Head of Chancery Ms. Evelyn Tanty Akakpo explained that the meeting was designed to update expatriates on embassy activities and explore areas of collaboration. She emphasized that the initiative reflects Ambassador Turay’s commitment to bringing the embassy closer to Sierra Leoneans in Senegal.
Ambassador Turay highlighted community outreach efforts undertaken since he assumed office last year, including campaigns against human trafficking and drug abuse. These initiatives took the embassy into several Senegalese communities, with plans to extend engagements this year to regions such as Fatick, Kaolack, Kafferine, Ziguinchor, and Casamance.
He also underscored progress in cultural and trade diplomacy, noting strides in bilateral cooperation between Sierra Leone and Senegal. This includes a draft treaty on mining and energy, as well as Sierra Leone’s participation in the Dakar Biennial of Contemporary African Art.
The meeting was attended by the newly elected president of the Sierra Leone National Union, Mr. Sallieu Musa Bangura, who outlined his immediate program for the union during his tenure.
Ambassador Turay reaffirmed the embassy’s commitment to rebranding Sierra Leone, driving investment opportunities, and ensuring that nationals abroad remain engaged in the country’s development agenda.
