S/Leone to Host Second Batch of Budapest–Bamako–Freetown Rally

Freetown, March 2, 2026: The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has announced preparations to host the second batch of participants in the 2026 Budapest–Bamako–Freetown Rally, reinforcing Sierra Leone’s growing reputation as a premier adventure and tourism destination.

The second batch, comprising 492 participants and 203 vehicles including motorbikes, is scheduled to enter Sierra Leone on 5 March 2026.

Entry points include Gbalamuya (Kambia) and Madina Oula (Kamakwie) border crossings.

The rally will proceed via Kambia–Gbere Junction and Kamakwi–Kabba Ferry–Gbaray Junction, continuing through Masiaka, Mile 38, Waterloo, and onward to Bureh Beach for overnight camping.

The official Finish Line Ceremony will take place on 6 March 2026 at Lumley Beach, Gigibonta Car Park, Freetown.

The ceremonial procession will travel from Bureh Beach along the Waterloo–Freetown Highway, passing through Up Gun, Kissy Road, Eastern Police, Godrich Street, Siaka Stevens Street, St. John, Congo Cross, and Wilkinson Road before culminating at Lumley Beach.

Sierra Leone’s continued role as the rally’s finish destination underscores its international visibility and tourism potential.

The event aligns with the Year of Culture and Creativity 2026, showcasing Sierra Leone’s cultural heritage while generating socio-economic benefits such as employment opportunities, local business patronage, and community engagement.

The Ministry has urged communities along the rally routes to cooperate with traffic authorities, maintain safety, and extend Sierra Leone’s renowned hospitality to visiting participants and guests.
