A prominent Africa–Europe trade envoy and philanthropist, Michele Maria Valenti, has extended humanitarian support to religious communities in Sierra Leone during the holy month of Ramadan and the Lent season.
The humanitarian assistance, distributed on March 11, 2026, was facilitated through Valenti’s business partner in the country, Alhaji Bangura. The donation included essential food items such as bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, boxes of tomato paste, cartons of Maggi seasoning cubes, bags of salt, and sugar. The items were distributed to several mosques and churches to support worshippers observing the sacred religious periods.
Among the mosques that benefited from the gesture were Masjid Jamieu Jalil Temne Central Mosque and other mosques located around the Ferry Terminal and Ferry Junction areas in Freetown. Chief Imams received the items on behalf of their congregations and expressed appreciation for the timely support.
The Chief Imam of Masjid Jamieu Jalil Temne Central Mosque, Dr. Ibrahim Salieu Kamara, thanked the donor and offered prayers on behalf of the Jamaat. He commended Valenti for remembering the Muslim community during Ramadan and prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon him for his generosity.
Similarly, the Chief Imam of the mosque at the Eastern Ferry Terminal, Sheikh Issa, expressed gratitude to Valenti for supporting their congregation and extending humanitarian assistance to communities across Africa.
In recognition of the ongoing Lent season, similar essential supplies were also distributed to churches. One of the beneficiaries was St. John Anglican Church, where church leaders and members received the items with appreciation and offered prayers in gratitude for the support.
The Ramadan and Lent donations form part of a broader humanitarian initiative by Valenti, who has begun distributing food items worth millions of Leones across Sierra Leone. The distribution started in Freetown and is expected to continue to provincial areas, targeting mosques and churches in communities across the country.
Valenti has gained recognition across Africa for his diplomatic and development engagements. During the African Leadership Summit, several African leaders reportedly commended his role in strengthening diplomatic cooperation, economic partnerships, and development initiatives between Europe and African nations.
Observers say the Ramadan and Lent donations reflect Valenti’s continued commitment to promoting unity, compassion, and support for communities during important religious seasons. The humanitarian initiative is also expected to extend beyond Sierra Leone, targeting mosques and churches in other African countries as part of a broader outreach programme.
Valenti has also been actively advocating for a range of development initiatives across Africa through his diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian engagements.
Valenti has consistently advised African governments on how to secure partnerships that safeguard sovereignty and long-term interests.
A political analyst, Ibrahim Musa revealed that this support to the Muslim and the Christian communities is not new because Michele Maria Valenti, has always been there to support communities across different West Africa countries, citing Valenti Effort in supporting African leaders in negotiating balanced agreements that avoid economic dependency, encouraging intra-African cooperation to strengthen trade and political unity. Also his role in promoting long-term infrastructure and development projects that foster independence rather than exploitation.
