The National Sports Authority (NSA) on Thursday 12th March, 2026 held a consultative meeting with Sierra Leone’s anti-doping experts, Dr. Brian Conton and Mr. Alfred Terry, to discuss the NSA’s draft anti-doping regulations. In his welcome address, NSA Boss Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai emphasized the importance of clean sports, noting that the draft regulations had taken too long to materialize. “It’s time to critically review the draft regulations and harmonize them with international best practices,” he said. “Sports must be free from all forms of doping activities by athletes and officials.” he surmised.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Sports, Director of Sports Haroine Mustapha Korgie stated that sporting activities in Sierra Leone are vulnerable to doping and the sector now stands ready to present the draft regulations for legislation. “We must treat this doping activities with the seriousness it deserves in order to prepare our athletes for national and international competitions,” he urged.
The Anti-doping experts Dr. Brian Conton expressed his deepest gratitude to the NSA for drafting the regulations, saying it had simplified their job. “As a team, we’re reviewing the draft to align it with international and WADA standards,” he added.
