Freetown, Sierra Leone – On March 18, 2026, the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL) welcomed delegations from the African Network of Information Commissions (ANIC) and the Right to Access Information Commission (RAIC) at its headquarters in Tower Hill, Freetown.
The meeting, led by HRCSL Vice Chairperson Victor Idrissa Lansana Esq., sought to secure the Commission’s support for the upcoming International Conference of Information Commissions (ICIC), scheduled to take place in Freetown in September.
Also present were HRCSL Executive Secretary Joseph Kamara, Deputy Executive Secretary Frederick Kamara, and senior directors.
In his remarks, Lansana expressed the Commission’s delight in hosting the delegations, stressing that no single institution can address all human rights issues alone. He highlighted HRCSL’s longstanding partnership with RAIC, noting that access to information is closely tied to human rights.
RAIC Chairman Dr. Ibrahim Seaga Shaw thanked HRCSL for its support, recalling that the Commission was among the founding members of ANIC in 2019. He emphasized the importance of collaboration, particularly in capacity building, and invited HRCSL to play a central role in planning the global conference.
ANIC Chairperson Madam Pansy Tlakula reinforced the link between access to information and fundamental rights, stating: “The right of access to information is part of the family of rights. So, we have to collaborate in the work that we do on a daily basis.”
Both delegations discussed their respective mandates and explored possible areas of cooperation, laying the groundwork for stronger institutional collaboration ahead of the ICIC.
