Freetown, March 26, 2026 — Hon. Mohamed Festus Lansana has officially taken the Oath of Office as Member of Parliament for Kenema District, following the passing of Hon. Mariama Ella Goba. His swearing-in was conducted in line with the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, as amended under the Proportional Representation System.
The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., confirmed Lansana’s election after citing Regulation 2022 and a notification letter from the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone to the Clerk of Parliament. He declared that Lansana had been duly elected to serve in the Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic.
Pursuant to Section 83 of Act No. 6 of the 1991 Constitution and Standing Order 1(A), Speaker Thomas invited Clerk of Parliament Karmoh K. Conteh to administer the Oath of Office. The ceremony was attended by parliamentary leadership, after which Lansana received copies of the Standing Orders and the Constitution to guide his participation in debates and proceedings.
In his congratulatory remarks, Speaker Thomas urged the new MP to uphold punctuality and discipline in parliamentary sessions. “Please don’t come here late, always make sure you are in Parliament in time or at 10 am,” he advised. He further encouraged Lansana to familiarize himself with parliamentary procedures to become an effective representative of his constituents.
The swearing-in marks the beginning of Hon. Mohamed Festus Lansana’s tenure as the voice of Kenema District in Sierra Leone’s Sixth Parliament.
