Freetown, 25 March 2026 – The newly appointed Country Manager of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Sierra Leone, Dr. Ado Mensah, has paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Finance, Hon. Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, at the Treasury Building in Freetown to formally present his credentials.
Welcoming Dr. Mensah, Minister Bangura conveyed Sierra Leone’s appreciation for the Bank’s growing support under his leadership, describing the relationship between the Government and the AfDB as “remarkable.” He expressed optimism that future engagements would deliver meaningful impact for the people of Sierra Leone.
Minister Bangura briefed Dr. Mensah on the government’s economic reforms, noting that inflation has remained in single digits since April 2025, the exchange rate has stabilized, and domestic treasury bill rates have fallen to sustainable levels. He emphasized that these achievements reflect sound policies aimed at placing the economy on a path toward sustainability.
The Minister also revealed that President Julius Maada Bio has extended an invitation to the AfDB President to visit Sierra Leone. He urged the Bank to continue supporting the country, particularly in light of global uncertainties and the economic impact of the ongoing US–Israel–Iran war. He said the government is implementing measures to ensure petroleum products, agricultural inputs, and other essential commodities remain available.
Dr. Mensah congratulated the Minister on Sierra Leone’s macroeconomic progress and reaffirmed the AfDB’s commitment to supporting the country’s economic agenda. He outlined his immediate priorities, including deepening policy dialogue, accelerating project implementation, and conducting macroeconomic studies to support reforms.
Financial Secretary Mr. Matthew Dingie welcomed Dr. Mensah and praised the AfDB’s continued support across various sectors. He pledged to work closely with the new Country Manager to improve disbursement rates and strengthen project delivery.
Also present at the meeting were Principal Deputy Financial Secretary Mr. Samuel E.B. Momoh, Deputy Financial Secretary for Multilateral Projects Mr. Morie Momoh, and Technical Adviser to the Minister Dr. Franklin Sisabu Bendu.
