Freetown, Sierra Leone – March 28, 2026 — The Anglican Diocesan Men’s Union (DMU) has reaffirmed its commitment to compassion and service by donating essential items to Cheshire Home in Cline Town, eastern Freetown, a facility dedicated to caring for children with disabilities.
The donation included seven bags of rice, clothing, laundry soap, bundles of water, gallons of cooking oil, palm oil, and other necessities, along with a cash contribution of NLe1,500. The outreach was led by Union Vice President Emile Williams, who emphasized that the DMU’s guiding motto, “Following where the Master trod,” reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ and inspires their mission to support vulnerable groups.
Williams explained that the Union’s outreach began seven years ago with modest support for the elderly in Grafton, but a visit to Cheshire Home four years ago left a lasting impact. Moved by the challenges faced by children living with disabilities, the Union adopted the facility and has since committed to annual support.
“Each member played a part—some provided food, while others assisted with logistics. It is this collective spirit that makes our gesture even more meaningful,” Williams noted, highlighting the personal sacrifices made by members.
Receiving the items, Cheshire Home Chairman Dr. Abdulai Don Dumbuya, popularly known as Dr. Abs, expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing the donation as timely and essential. “The children consume one full bag of rice each week, so these supplies mean a great deal to us. This home is entirely run on donations,” he said, acknowledging the ongoing struggles faced by staff and residents.
Resident representative Blessing S. Kallon also expressed gratitude, noting that the Union’s support consistently arrives at critical moments. “Life here is not easy, and while the government tries, it is often not enough. Your presence brings hope,” she said.
The Anglican Diocesan Men’s Union, comprising men from congregations across the diocese, has earned recognition as a force for social good. Its latest donation underscores the vital role of faith-based organizations in filling gaps left by public systems, restoring dignity and hope to children who are often marginalized.
The visit concluded with prayers, smiles, and heartfelt exchanges, leaving behind a powerful reminder that even simple acts of kindness can transform lives.
