Bo, Southern Sierra Leone – Friday, April 3, 2026 — President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, accompanied by First Lady Fatima Maada Bio, joined alumni, students, and dignitaries at the Bo Government Secondary School to mark the institution’s 120th Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony, commemorating more than a century of excellence in education and character development.
The landmark celebration, themed “Bo School at 120 – Celebrating a Rich Legacy and Inspiring Generations,” drew Paramount Chiefs, distinguished alumni, and key stakeholders. The event opened with the commissioning of two new entrance gates, symbolizing renewal and continuity for the historic institution.
Delivering the keynote address, President Bio — himself a proud alumnus — described the occasion as both personal and historic, noting Bo School’s defining role in shaping generations of leaders.
“Bo School does not simply produce educated men; it produces men who shape nations,” he stated, emphasizing the school’s enduring strength in discipline, character, and leadership.
The President urged students to rise to the expectations of the institution and called on alumni to move beyond symbolic gestures toward structured mentorship and sustained investment. He stressed that Sierra Leone’s progress depends not only on government policies but on the quality of citizens nurtured by strong institutions.
Reaffirming his government’s commitment to education, President Bio highlighted ongoing efforts to expand opportunities, strengthen institutions, and ensure that investments made today deliver lasting national impact.
First Lady Fatima Maada Bio presented prizes and awards to outstanding students and teachers, recognizing academic excellence and service. Distinguished alumni, including Alpha Tejan Wurie, also addressed the gathering, reflecting on Bo School’s continued relevance in national development.
The anniversary celebration underscored Bo School’s enduring legacy as a cornerstone of leadership development and its vital role in shaping Sierra Leone’s future.
