Africa-UK Trade & Investment Summit Recognizes DG Yankuba Bio

The Director General of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA), Yankuba Askia Bio, has added another accolade to his growing list of achievements after receiving a prestigious award from the Africa-UK Diaspora Trade and Investment Summit and Awards.

The honor recognizes Mr. Bio’s outstanding leadership and transformative impact on Sierra Leone’s maritime sector, particularly his efforts to modernize port operations, enhance efficiency, and promote sustainable growth.

Since assuming office, Mr. Bio has spearheaded sweeping reforms that have repositioned the Port of Freetown as a competitive hub for trade and investment in West Africa. His administration has introduced modern cargo management systems, strengthened security, improved vessel turnaround times, and fostered closer collaboration with shipping lines, customs authorities, and other key stakeholders.

Under his guidance, the Authority has also prioritized transparency, workforce productivity, and customer service, while actively supporting government initiatives to boost revenue from the maritime sector. Talks with international investors have further advanced plans to expand port facilities, develop integrated logistics systems, and unlock new avenues for economic growth.
