Rice Bonanza for Police: IGP Hailed as Backlog Cleared

FREETOWN – Police officers across Sierra Leone have lauded Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu following the nationwide distribution of rice supplies that has cleared all outstanding arrears owed to personnel and provided an advance allocation for the coming month.

The distribution, undertaken by VIP Trading, has seen each officer receive six bags of rice — covering all backlog and one month’s advance supply. Officers described the move as unprecedented and a major boost to their welfare.

For months, concerns had mounted over delays in rice supply to police personnel. Officers had called for urgent intervention, and many now credit the IGP’s relentless engagement and commitment to welfare for resolving the issue.

“We are very grateful to the IGP. Receiving six bags at once means all the backlog has been cleared and we have even been supplied in advance. This is a huge relief for officers and our families,” one officer remarked.

Another noted that morale within the force has significantly improved: “The IGP has demonstrated that he cares about the wellbeing of his officers. When welfare concerns are addressed, officers are better positioned to serve the public professionally and effectively.”

The distribution has sparked excitement in police barracks and stations across the country, with personnel viewing it as a practical demonstration of the IGP’s commitment to improving living conditions.

Beneficiaries also acknowledged the role of VIP Trading in ensuring prompt delivery, noting that the supplier’s efficiency was instrumental in bringing the matter to a successful conclusion.

Security analysts argue that addressing welfare concerns is critical to strengthening discipline, professionalism, and operational effectiveness within law enforcement. Motivated officers, they say, are more likely to deliver efficient services and uphold high standards.

For many within the Sierra Leone Police, the rice distribution represents more than just food supplies — it is seen as a clear signal of responsive leadership and a renewed commitment to personnel welfare under IGP Sellu.

As the exercise continues nationwide, optimism is growing that the clearance of arrears and provision of advance supplies mark the beginning of a more consistent and reliable welfare support system.
