Under the agreement, 1,000 civil servants will receive digital skills training as part of a broader effort to modernize government operations and improve public service delivery.
The Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation and the Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs in Sierra Leone have signed a partnership agreement aimed at strengthening digital skills across the country’s public service.
Under the agreement, 1,000 civil servants will receive digital skills training as part of a broader effort to modernize government operations and improve public service delivery. The programme will cover a range of competencies, from the use of everyday digital tools to more advanced areas such as data management, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
The training initiative will be implemented over a nine-month period and will reach civil servants across 29 ministries, departments and agencies. Courses will be delivered through the Civil Service Training College, providing participants with practical skills needed to support digital transformation within government institutions.
Officials said the programme represents a direct investment in the public sector workforce, equipping civil servants with the knowledge and capabilities required to operate effectively in an increasingly digital environment.
The inclusion of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity reflects the government’s growing focus on building digital capacity within the public sector. Strengthening these skills is expected to improve government efficiency, support data-driven decision-making and enhance the security of digital systems and services.
The initiative also aligns with Sierra Leone’s broader digital transformation agenda, which seeks to leverage technology to improve governance, service delivery and public administration. By expanding digital skills across government institutions, authorities aim to build a more responsive and technologically capable civil service.
As governments across Africa increasingly adopt digital technologies, investments in digital literacy and workforce development are becoming critical to ensuring that public institutions can effectively deliver modern services and respond to evolving technological demands.
