Freetown, June 28, 2026: The National Investment Board (NIB) has taken a major step forward in its efforts to attract strategic infrastructure investment, hosting a high-level delegation from Guangxi Shenglong Metallurgical Co., Ltd. for a stakeholder engagement and site visit to Mando Village, Timdale Chiefdom, Moyamba District. The visit forms part of ongoing discussions on the proposed Mando Deep-Water Port Project, a landmark initiative with the potential to transform the district into an industrial hub.
Welcoming the investors, Paramount Chief Solongnie expressed gratitude for their interest and assured them of the community’s full support. He emphasized that residents are ready to contribute labour and collaborate during implementation, noting that the project could complement existing livelihoods in fishing and agriculture while opening new economic opportunities.
NIB Executive Director Dr. Edward Hinga Sandy described the visit as a crucial step in the investment facilitation process. He acknowledged potential challenges but stressed that investors often view them as opportunities for innovation. Dr. Sandy urged communities to embrace the project, highlighting its potential to generate jobs, stimulate local economic activity, and position Moyamba District as a strategic investment hub.
Constituency MP Hon. Mustapha M. Sellu told community members that the visit was designed to give investors a firsthand assessment of the site before finalizing their decision. He expressed optimism that the port would unlock opportunities in trade, connectivity, and employment, positioning the district as a gateway for national development.
Following the engagement, the delegation toured the proposed site, examining its geographical features and surrounding infrastructure. The visit allowed investors to evaluate the project’s potential and engage further with stakeholders as part of their due diligence.
The NIB reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating investments that drive infrastructure development, strengthen investor confidence, and deliver sustainable socio-economic benefits for Sierra Leone. The Mando Deep-Water Port Project is expected to be a catalyst for industrial growth, expanded trade, and improved livelihoods in Moyamba District and beyond.
