Freetown, Sierra Leone: As Fourah Bay College prepares to celebrate its 200th anniversary, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education has announced decisive steps to secure the institution’s future, beginning with a long-term solution to its water supply challenges.
On Wednesday, Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Haja Ramatulai Wurie, joined senior management of Fourah Bay College in a strategic dialogue with the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation and her team. The meeting focused on addressing the college’s long-standing water crisis and ensuring sustainable access for the campus community.
During the engagement, Fourah Bay College presented its Strategic Plan for Sustainable Water Supply, which outlines measures to optimise existing infrastructure, including the college dam, while exploring additional investments such as boreholes and other interventions. The plan aims to guarantee a reliable 24-hour water supply for students, staff, and residents.
Minister Wurie described the initiative as a demonstration of “One Government in action”—collaborative, solutions-driven, and focused on impact. She emphasized that as the college celebrates 200 years of academic excellence, government and partners are working together to lay the foundation for the next 200 years.
Officials noted that the water supply plan forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Fourah Bay College’s infrastructure and ensure the institution continues to serve as a beacon of higher education in Sierra Leone and beyond.
