Freetown, Sierra Leone: The National Communications Authority (NatCA) has moved to reassure the public as cybersecurity incidents continue to affect digital services across the country.
In a statement issued on July 30 from its headquarters at South Ridge, Freetown, NatCA said it is closely monitoring the situation and working with government institutions, law enforcement agencies, licensed operators, and other stakeholders to coordinate a national response.
As the regulator of Sierra Leone’s electronic communications sector, NatCA reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the security, resilience, and integrity of the country’s digital infrastructure.
The Authority urged communications service providers and digital platforms to strengthen their cybersecurity measures, promptly report incidents, and comply with established security standards. It also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant by avoiding suspicious links and messages, protecting personal information, and enabling multi-factor authentication where possible.
“Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility,” the statement noted, adding that NatCA will continue to monitor developments and provide updates through its official channels while working with stakeholders to strengthen Sierra Leone’s cyber resilience.
NatCA’s intervention comes amid growing concerns over the impact of cyber threats on businesses, consumers, and national security, underscoring the need for collective action to protect the country’s digital ecosystem.
