Freetown, August 20, 2026: The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, has called on the technical team of the national U17 male squad to ensure that player selection is based strictly on merit as preparations intensify for the 2027 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers (WAFU A) in Senegal.
Addressing the coaches during a training session at the SLFA Technical Centre in Kingtom, Freetown, President Kamara stressed the importance of fairness, professionalism, and transparency in the selection process. He urged the technical team to remain free from bias and to select players solely on the basis of performance, discipline, commitment, and ability.
Kamara reminded both coaches and players that they represent the entire nation and therefore carry the responsibility of giving their best to ensure Sierra Leone’s positive representation on the international stage. He further encouraged the team to demonstrate discipline, unity, and determination, noting that their efforts should make Sierra Leoneans proud.
Sierra Leone has been drawn in Group A alongside hosts Senegal, Mauritania, and The Gambia. The WAFU A U17 competition is scheduled to run from 7–20 August 2026 in Senegal.
The SLFA President expressed confidence in the technical team’s ability to assemble a competitive squad capable of making a strong impression in the qualifiers. He urged them to work diligently to build a team that can proudly fly the national flag and showcase Sierra Leone’s footballing talent.
