Freetown, August 22, 2026 – The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, has announced that 130 Sierra Leonean students have been awarded scholarships to pursue studies in the People’s Republic of China this year, describing the initiative as a vital investment in Sierra Leone’s human capital development.
Speaking at a farewell ceremony, Dr. Wurie said the scholarships go beyond academic qualifications, offering young Sierra Leoneans exposure to new knowledge, skills, and experiences that will strengthen expertise across critical sectors of the economy.

The Minister emphasised that every trained Sierra Leonean represents an investment in the country’s future. “These scholarships are about more than earning degrees. They are about building skills, exposing our young people to new knowledge and experiences, and strengthening the expertise we need across critical sectors,” she stated.

Dr. Wurie expressed gratitude to His Excellency the Chinese Ambassador and the Government of China for their continued partnership with Sierra Leone.
