Sierra Leone, August 26, 2026: The Minister of Health, Dr. Austin Demby, PhD, MPH, has reinforced Sierra Leone’s commitment to health financing and strategic partnerships during a high‑level meeting with Ms. Mama Keita, Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).
Dr. Demby highlighted the country’s progress under the 300 Days of Activism initiative, reporting a 32 percent reduction in maternal deaths, an 11 percent decline in child deaths, and a 92 percent increase in identifying and reaching zero‑dose children. He stressed that sustained collaboration and investment in health financing and information systems remain critical priorities guiding Sierra Leone’s ongoing health sector reforms.
UNECA commended Sierra Leone’s achievements and expressed strong interest in supporting the nation’s health financing strategy. The Commission reaffirmed its shared vision to deliver quality, accessible, and equitable healthcare for all.
This engagement further solidifies Sierra Leone’s drive to strengthen international partnerships and mobilize resources aimed at improving health outcomes for women, children, and communities nationwide.
