Hotels Association Launches Professional Training for Hospitality Staff in Makeni

Makeni, Sierra Leone – August 31, 2026: The Sierra Leone Association of Hotels has kicked off a five‑day professional training program for hotel and restaurant staff at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni, aimed at raising service standards across the hospitality sector.

More than 50 trainees drawn from hotels, guest houses, bars, and restaurants in the Northern Region are participating. The training targets kitchen staff, front desk officers, and housekeepers, with sessions facilitated by Jean Paul Hubert, a French hospitality expert with over five decades of global industry experience.

Mr. Hubert will extend the training to staff from the North East, South, and Western Area over the next month, sharing international best practices in service delivery.

Opening the program, John Shalop, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Hotels, said the initiative is designed to build the capacity of hotel staff and align operations with global standards. He urged participants to take the training seriously, stressing that knowledge transfer to younger staff will help address challenges in front desk management, kitchen operations, and housekeeping.

All participants will receive certificates at the end of the training, with a closing ceremony scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026, at Wusum Hotel.

The initiative forms part of the Association’s broader efforts to professionalize Sierra Leone’s hospitality sector and strengthen service delivery nationwide.
