Kenema/Bo, September 11, 2026: The Federation of Allied Tourism Associations (FATA) has held one‑day engagements in Kenema and Bo, bringing together members of its 19 associations to consult on unity, governance, and the future of Sierra Leone’s tourism sector.
The Kenema session took place at the former District Council Hall, while stakeholders in Bo gathered at Bo Inn. Participants included representatives of hotels, guest houses, restaurants, night clubs, travel agencies, tour operators, transport providers, and other allied associations within the tourism and hospitality industry.
During both engagements, FATA formally presented its draft constitution, outlining objectives, structure, membership, and code of conduct. Members raised questions and offered contributions, with key issues noted for inclusion in the final draft. At the close of discussions, participants endorsed the constitution and FATA’s roadmap for advancing the sector.
“The message was clear in both cities: FATA For ME, FATA For YOU, FATA For WE ALL. This is our collective platform to speak with one voice and grow our businesses together,” said John Rogers, Chairman of the Sierra Leone Association of Travel Agencies (SLATA).
John Shallop, President of the Sierra Leone Hotels Association, commended FATA for extending the engagement to regional members. He urged stakeholders to remain united and committed to developing their businesses.
“We must drive this industry ourselves through collaboration. Government support is important, but the real work starts with us,” Shallop emphasized.
Members in both Kenema and Bo expressed appreciation for the initiative and pledged to work closely with FATA to strengthen tourism and hospitality across Sierra Leone.
Formed in October 2025, FATA aims to promote unionism and protect the interests of private‑sector players in tourism and hospitality. The latest engagements mark a significant step in consolidating its governance framework and building momentum for sector growth.
