The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) have intensified investigations into an alleged fraud syndicate linked to QNET operatives in Kono District, while collaborating with relevant authorities to facilitate the identification of victims.
According to a police report, a total of 27 victims, mainly from Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Burkina Faso, are currently under police protection. Of that number, 23 individuals, including two suspected syndicate operatives, were initially being held in the Tankoro Division, while four other victims are being accommodated under the jurisdiction of the Massingbi Division.
The police disclosed that consultations have been held with the Office of National Security (ONS), the Immigration Department and local authorities to ensure the welfare of the victims and coordinate arrangements for their return to their respective countries.
As part of those efforts, the victims have been placed under the care of Kono Maraka Chief, Mr. Lansana, and the Area Chief of Fire Force pending the completion of the necessary repatriation processes.
Meanwhile, the two suspected operatives, identified as Yaya Ouattara, also known as Idrissa Kamara, and Mohamed Fofanah, remain in police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the alleged fraudulent activities.
The Sierra Leone Police further stated that community engagement efforts are underway to gather additional information that could support the investigation and help uncover the full scope of the alleged syndicate’s operations.
The latest development underscores the police’s commitment to tackling transnational fraud and protecting vulnerable individuals who may have been lured into exploitative schemes.
