Sierra Leone — June 16, 2026: In a remarkable display of philanthropy and community empowerment, renowned entertainer Alfinah Emma Kamara hosted an initiative at the 7th Battalion Barracks in Goderich, Freetown, aimed at promoting education, talent development, and personal growth among children and youth.

A Celebration of Talent and Education

The event brought together children, parents, and community members in a vibrant celebration of creativity and social responsibility. Performances included dance by Sierra Leone Shaggy and a flute introduction by Ibrahim S. Bangura (I-Bangs), alongside other entertainers.

Alfinah explained that the initiative was designed to create opportunities for young people to realize their potential while instilling positive social values. “It is very important to invest in today’s generation and the next generation. We can build a better community if we continue to support one another, especially those in need,” she said.

Scholarships and Vocational Training

The programme went beyond entertainment, offering tangible support to participants.

  • School Scholarships: Several children received one-year scholarships and school materials.
  • Vocational Training: Youth were awarded scholarships in hairdressing, catering, and other skills.
  • Competitions: Dance and spelling contests encouraged creativity, literacy, and healthy competition.

Parents and beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative. Kadiatu Kamara, a single mother, praised Alfinah’s generosity after her daughter received a scholarship. “This opportunity has really helped me and my daughter. Alfinah has reduced my burden. She is the kind of person society should embrace,” she said.

Alfinah urged young people to remain focused on education, avoid drugs and negative peer pressure, and embrace discipline, hard work, and perseverance. Her message resonated strongly with attendees, reinforcing the importance of character development alongside academic and vocational achievement.

The initiative, branded “Dance with Alfinah”, highlighted the crucial role of community-led programmes in complementing national efforts to improve education and youth empowerment in Sierra Leone. By blending entertainment with mentorship and practical support, the event demonstrated how cultural activities can serve as vehicles for social change.
