Aminata Fullah Makes History as First Sierra Leonean Referee at AFCON

FREETOWN—Sierra Leonean referee Aminata Fullah has etched her name in the history books as the first-ever match official from the country to be selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to officiate at the prestigious TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025 in Morocco.

The tournament, set to take place from July 5 to July 26, marks a monumental milestone for Fullah, whose years of dedication, discipline, and outstanding officiating have earned her a spot on the continent’s biggest stage for women’s football.

Beyond this groundbreaking feat, Fullah has also become Sierra Leone’s first-ever Elite A Referee, a status that positions her among the best match officials in Africa. Her achievement reflects the rapid growth of Sierra Leonean refereeing standards and the increasing presence of the nation’s officials on the global football scene.
